Games Coordinator Updates, Job Description, and How to Apply

The Maine Sr. Games board of directors is announcing that our current Games Coordinator, Karen Reardon, will be resigning from her position as of December 31, 2025. We have respectfully accepted Karen’s request.

We have been fortunate to have Karen’s leadership for the past 3 years. With Karen’s leadership we have maintained and grown our financial sponsorships adding, LL Bean, CMP, Gateway Retirement Solutions, Back In Motion Physical Therapy, and Saco-Biddeford Savings Bank.  We were one of the beneficiaries of the Maine Marathon in 2024 and will continue to receive funding from the Marathon in 2025, 26 and 27.  Martin’s Point continues to be our PRESENTING SPONSOR.

We have maintained a very full and active list of sports.  Our participation numbers have been equal to, and exceeded  numbers both for qualifying and non-qualifying years. We had 91 Maine athletes qualify for the NSGA games in Iowa this summer.  We hold our events in these communities:  Bangor, Bridgton, Brunswick, Sanford, Standish, Cumberland, Saco, Scarborough, No. Yarmouth, Hallowell, and Augusta. We are currently working on securing dates for 2026, which will be a qualifying year for the 2027 Nationals in Tulsa, OK.

What’s next?

We are working on the  job description and will begin advertising soon.  Our goal is to bring on a Games Coordinator before December 31, 2025.  The Board has been meeting and talking about the vision for the Maine Senior Games.  We will post the job opening on the Maine Association for Non-Profits job board, with the Maine Recreation and Park Association, the Association for Maine Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and Indeed.com.  If you or you know of someone who might be interested in this position please share this message with them.

We would like to extend an invitation to all athletes, volunteers, and friends of the Games to a ZOOM town hall where you can share your thoughts about the Maine Senior Games, ask the board members questions and share ideas for the future.   You may email Deb with your ideas or to let me know you plan on attending one of the zooms.

Sincerely on behalf of the Maine Senior Games Board of Directors,

Deb Smith, MSG Board Chair
